NEW TOPIC: CHURCH HISTORY

On November 12th, we will begin our new book study, The Story of Christianity by Justo Gonzalez.  We will immerse ourselves in the story of God’s kingdom throughout history, with PowerPoint presentations to experience the lands and surroundings of the people of God as the gospel spread throughout the world, beautiful maps and timelines and charts to sort out and understand all the activity of the Kingdom, and plenty of opportunities to meet the actors in this great drama as we read together both primary and secondary sources.  Experience hymns and liturgy from as early as the 1st and 2nd centuries, study the theology of the church fathers in the post-apostolic era, in their own words from their letters and sermons and books that they wrote, feel the impact of the art and architecture of the medieval and renaissance era.  Weep with us over the abuses of power, the heresies, and the schisms.  Thrill with us over the struggle to express the Truth of God precisely in the Creeds.  Travel with us to far away places as missionaries take the gospel to the uttermost parts of the world.  Remember how Jesus said to his disciples, “I am the vine, you are the branches?”  The vine is very long now.  Church history is the story of the growth of that vine.  And because we are branches of that indestructible, eternal vine, this is our story, too.  Isaac Newton once said, “If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.”  Come stand with us on the shoulders of the giants of God’s kingdom, and see what a glorious work God is doing in this world.  See you November 12th!  Watch for updates on this website.
